Huntington News Letter  Oct 25, 2010

Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum acquires tug Huntington’s Pilot House August 30, 2010

Please take a moment to read the news letter and. the story titled “HUNTINGTON – NNS HULL #356, A History, a Heritage…and a Hope”written by Bill Lee (Class of 1956).  At the time Bill wrote this story, the plans were that this boat, built by apprentices in 1933, would go to a museum to be preserved and displayed as an “educational and historical exhibit”.

The Apprentice Alumni Association is now taking donations to help Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum with the costs of their restoration efforts. If all goes as planned, the plaque and a check will be presented to CBMM at a ceremony to be held at the completion of the restoration. If you would like to help, there are three options for you to do so:

1. You can attend any of our Alumni events, this year and next, and we will have a donation jar set out to take your contributions.

2. You can send your contributions directly to our treasurer. Using the shipyard address on this letter head, c/o Lynne Porter, Dept. O82, Bldg. 1744-5th floor. Please be sure to include a note to Lynne that this is a HUNTINGTON donation.

3. To qualify for a tax deduction, please make your checks out to Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (with HUNTINGTON written at the bottom of the check) and send them to our treasurer at the following address:

Newport News Shipbuilding
4101 Washington Ave. Newport News, VA 23607
 c/o Lynne Porter, Dept. O55, Bldg. 901-1

4. If you contribute to SHIPPAC, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a 501-C-3 tax exempt organization and it can be designated as a charity to donate your Chairmen’s Circle PAC Match funds. (Click here for form)
